Public Art

In my projects I work with my husband, Keith MacMillan, through our company; Infamous Enterprises Ltd. Together, we combine many years of knowledge and experience in specialized art projects. We work at our kitchen table to weave the plans for our artwork, on which we collaborate with many contractors, fabricators and suppliers to create home renovations, collections, works for display in public art galleries, and permanent public art installations. All inspirations are from the natural world and inspiration from elders and knowledge keeper and consultation with the community both engages cultural sharing and protocols. and When making public art, wherever it exists, I utilize materials best suiting the concept.

In the TOTAL Aboriginal Interpretative Trail, MacDonald Island Park and a reflection of the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo’s in Fort McMurray. This is a permanent art piece ‘Sky Spirit Courage of Mother Bear.. see images in package.  This National wide representation of the 7 sacred teachings, my project reflected courage of mother bear and her forever protecting and chasing after little bear.  As oral teachings of star constellations big dipper with Polaris. This piece one star is missing, this reflects the past & futures is everchanging and some, stories are forgotten. The smudge offers hope to re-center us, to guide us in the stars as we once where... The abalone shell & eagle feather positioned working with the art team to explain positioning and pitch of shell. Carved into the shell is stars shadow on the ground activating around the art piece imaged ‘space and stars’ by inviting the viewer to step onto the pedestal to lookup into carved holes to see the sky in the abalone shell. During ‘a smudge’ the smoke leads our prayers to the spirit world. The shadow casted on the ground and the pedestal was positioned facing north, to represent the connection to the spirit world and at the centre of creation.  The oversized 12ft ‘flight feather’ is used because the eagle relationship on the land and spirit world it is positioned to engage the viewer bringing the smoke upwards in a smudging position.  The flight feather is the highest honor that can be gifted as the eagle must dies for the feather to reach the earth.
